Gannett launches Bounce TV network for African-Americans on Atlanta's WATL-TV

ATLANTA -- Bounce TV, the first-ever over-the-air broadcast television network for African Americans will launch September 26 on Gannett Broadcasting's WATL-TV.

The agreement is Bounce TV's first with Gannett. Bounce TV currently has affiliation agreements with Gannett, Belo Corporation, Nexstar Communications, LIN TV Corporation and Raycom Media. The Atlanta-based network expects to be available in at least 50% of the country by this September.

"We're thrilled to add Bounce TV to the growing list of media properties of The Networks of 11Alive. Given that Atlanta is the birthplace of civil rights, we're confident that a network for African Americans will be very well received within this market," says John Deushane, President and General Manager of Gannett's WXIA-TV/WATL-TV.

National night out returns to Atlanta

The "28th Annual National Night Out" is Tuesday, August 2, 2011.

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states. Over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.

The goal is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Many Metro Atlanta communities are participating.  You can view our interactive map to find one near you (if you would lke your community event added to the calendar, e-mail jwolfe@11alive.com).

ADOPT A PET: Meet Melody

ADOPT A PET: Meet Melody

ATLANTA - If you dream of coming home to a wet nose, wagging tail and tons of kisses (in addition to, perhaps, a half-chewed shoe or an overturned trashcan) adopt a puppy from your local Humane Society. According to the ASPCA, approximately 5 million to 7 million domesticated animals enter animal shelters nationwide, every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized. However, you can change those numbers by adopting a "companion" for yourself or for your family. Pets are an investment but, in our opinion, an investment well worth the money.

Melody is a one-year-old retrevier/shepard mix. This puppy is medium and he probably won’t get much larger than this. She’s looking for a “forever” home and wants someone can train him and to give him enough attention so he can become a disciplined dog. She was rescued from a horder and will be featured on a show on the Animal Planet Channel about animals rescued from animal hording situations.
