ASO, Cirque team up for dynamic concert

ASO, Cirque team up for dynamic concert

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The magic of Cirque will combine with classical masterpieces and contemporary music played by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for one incredible evening.

The ASO, led by conductor Michael Krajewski, will perform with Cirque acrobats at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park (2200 Encore Parkway, Alpharetta).

Single tickets are currently on sale and range in price from $12 to $35. Call 404-733-5000 for more information or to purchase tickets for any show in the ASO summer season.

If you’ve never made it to New York, you can go to BB’s Diner and say you got pretty close. From the moment you walk in, you’d swear you were in an authentic New York diner – because YOU ARE! Two things you should be aware of: This is OTP in a BIG sort of way and 2) they close at 2pm EVERY DAY so plan accordingly.

BB’s Diner is known for it’s bagels, made fresh daily. The only thing more pronounced than the New York attitude seething from this place, is how GOOD these bagels are! BB’s Diner is the only hand-rolled kettle-boiled bagels in Atlanta.

I have a confession: My name is Maura, and I’m a tea-a-holic.

I’m a daily tea drinker. Chick-Fil-A is my “dealer” of choice, and it helps that there’s one located right around the corner from my house. My Twitter friends tease me about my check-ins, my clients give me gift cards to feed the need, and I’m rarely out and about without that red-and-white styrofoam cup in my car filled with freshly brewed refreshment.

How happy am I, then, to hear the words “Chick-Fil-A” and “free” and “tea” in the same sentence?

ATLANTA -- The Cheesecake Factory is preparing to debut a brand new flavor of its world-famous cheesecake -- just in time for National Cheesecake Day.

On Saturday, July 30, Cheesecake Factory guests will be able to sample the new Hershey®'s Chocolate Bar Cheesecake, which features layers of chocolate cheesecake, chocolate cake and ganache, topped with chocolate frosting and chocolate chips.

Dine-in customers will also be treated to an "any slice at half price" event Saturday in which they can purchase any of the restaurant's 30-plus flavors of cheesecake for half the usual price.

Metro Atlanta foreclosure rate 16th highest in nation

ATLANTA -- Metro Atlanta's foreclosure rate slowed by the middle of 2011, but remains among the metros with the highest rates.

Atlanta had 44,1560 foreclosure filings from January through June, down about 16 percent from the first half of 2010. This gave Atlanta the 16th highest rate of foreclosures, according to RealtyTrac, which publishes the largest list of foreclosures in the country.

The company defines a foreclosure as default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions.

Local teachers to receive free school supplies from Staples

ATLANTA -- Every year, more than 90 percent of American teachers spend hundreds of dollars of their own money on classroom supplies, according to the National Education Association.

Now, with the first day of school less than a week away for some, Metro Atlanta Staples stores are offering local teachers a big helping hand.

Saturday, July 30 is Teacher Appreciation Day at Staples. The first 100 teachers to visit certain Atlanta-area stores from 9 a.m.
