Forsyth County Police Need Your Help

CUMMING, GA -- Officers with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office would like to speak with two men in connection with a recent theft at a business in Cumming.

The theft occurred on Sunday, Oct. 3, when the suspects entered a perimeter fence of American BOA, Inc. (1420 Redi Road, Cumming, 30040) and made off with approximately $50,000 worth of scrap metal. They allegedly carried the metal through the woods to a waiting vehicle.

Anyone knowing the identity of these men is asked to call Investigator Jason Soles with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office at 770-781-3081. Anonymous calls made be made to Crime Stoppers at 770-888-7308.

Charity Polo Match and Autumn Fete

On October 31st, at noon, Tomorrow’s Luminaries Foundation will host their Inaugural Polo Match & Autumn Fête at Chukkar Farm Polo Club in Alpharetta, GA. Developer Liquidation Sale in Cumming

An emplty Walmart store in Cumming has been transformed into a huge liquidation sale to sell off home furnishings that were once destined for model homes.

Atlanta Antique and Estate Liquidations President Judy Friedman said a developer, who's name is not being released, is selling the items to cut costs.

"This is the equivalent of about 40 model homes of furnture," said Friedman. Friedman said the real estate bust has developers selling homes at rock bottom prices, so they are often foregoing decorating model homes.

Most of the furniture, art and rugs is new and deeply discounted. "Anywhere from 50 to 80 percent or more," said Friedman. Some of the best deals are on silk flower arrangements,   plants and art.

Groundbreaking for New High School to Take Place Oct. 15

MILTON, GA -- A groundbreaking ceremony for a new high school in the City of Milton is planned for Friday, Oct. 15.

Festivities will begin at 11:00 a.m.; in the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled to Wednesday, Oct. 27, also at 11:00 a.m.

The yet-to-be-named high school is under construction at the intersection of Cogburn Road and Bethany Road (Milton, 30004). When it opens in August of 2012, the 320,885 square foot building of 99 classrooms will house up to 1,937 students in grades nine through 12.

The public is invited to the construction site to view architectural plans, as well as hear from officials about the school's planned features. Refreshments will be served following a presentation and groundbreaking activities. Comfortable shoes with low heels are recommended due to gravel and some possibly muddy areas on the site.

The school was designed by the architectural firm of Chapman, Griffin, Lanier, Sussenbach.

Investigation of Alpharetta Crash Completed

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's Traffic Enforcement Unit announces the completion of a fatality crash investigation.

On Monday, Oct. 4, Alpharetta 911 received emergency calls stating that a vehicle had left the roadway on Georgia 400 southbound. The investigation revealed a black Pontiac G6 passenger car left the right shoulder as it traveled GA 400 southbound south of the Mansell exit.

The vehicle left the roadway between the Mansell Road exit ramp and the overpass bridge above Mansell Road; it struck a small beam, causing it to go airborne over the sloping embankment before the overpass. The vehicle continued airborne and landed in the median of Mansell Road, then traveled across the eastbound lanes of Mansell Road and came to a stop.

Larry G. Pack, 53, of Newnan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Woodstock Goes Wild

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Woodstock Goes Wild, an annual fundraiser event that honors foster children and families, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Woodstock (11905 Highway 92, Woodstock, 30188).

Woodstock Goes Wild is a fun-filled evening where children can meet and touch wild animals, enjoy musical acts and participate in other family-friendly activities. Ticket sale proceeds benefit Rome's Open Door Children's Home, a safe house for abused and neglected children.

This year will mark the 9th annual Woodstock Gone Wild and will host several special guests, including Mary Perdue, First Lady of Georgia and an advocate for foster children. Wildlife expert Pete Gros will be in attendance, along with a number of his animal friends from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.
