ALPHARETTA, GA -- Jessica Harper, a working mother of two, faces the same problem as many of her ilk: how do you feed a family of picky eaters when you're not a kitchen person yourself?

The answer can be found in Harper's new book, The Crabby Cook Cookbook: Recipes and Rants. She will be at the Atlanta area's only Publix Apron's Cooking School (4305 State Bridge Road, Alpharetta, 30022) to give a talk and sign copies on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Harper is an actress who has had roles in such movies as Minority Report, Stardust Memories, Love and Death and Pennies from Heaven. In her book, she shares funny personal stories filled with "charming crabbiness" and 100 tasty and easy-to-follow recipes.

The book explains how Harper invited her mother-in-law to dinner and then offered her the apron, and recounts her first attempt at making homemade turkey potpie, which she served to Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, despite the crust tasting like rosemary-scented Play-Doh.

Crabby or not, Harper has found a way to make it work, and talks about how mommy cooks can change their food-i-tude by identifying meals that will make everyone happy, including Gobble-It-Up Turkey Chili and Tony's Rigatoni.

The book also has a section on entertaining, with recipes for drinks, Whore's Doorves, Dip One & Dip Two and My Big Fat Greek Platter.
