Author, Former K-9 Policeman to Visit Canton Bookstore

CANTON, GA -- Former K-9 police manhunter and local author Jeff Schettler will be at Yawn's Books & More (210 East Main Street, Canton, 30114) on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 11:00 a.m.

He will be promoting his 2009 book, Red Dog Rising, and presenting a slideshow about his work.

Schettler is a well-known dog trainer and retired K-9 policeman who wrote Red Dog Rising about his 11 years of groundbreaking work with Ronin, his Bloodhound K-9 partner. The pair was once attached to the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team's K-9 Assistance Program.

In his talks, Schettler accounts how he trained the first bloodhound in the Alameda (California) Police Department and solved some of the most notorious and high-profile crimes in the state in the 1990s. After a serious injury forced him to retire from police work, he established Tactical Tracker Teams, later integrated into the Alpharetta-based Georgia K-9 National Training Center.

Schettler currently teaches trailing classes at seminars throughout the country and trains dogs for individual autistic children. He has appeared on several television programs, including "MythBusters" and "Unsolved Mysteries," as well as PetLifeRadio with Marcie Davis.
