ATLANTA -- Surveys show that today's young people are more in touch with the needs of their communities than ever before.

In a recent study conducted by Build-A-Bear Workshop, 98% of the 400 kids polled said that they believe it is important to help others.

Build-A-Bear Workshop founded its Huggable Heroes program to recognize and encourage young leaders who provide extraordinary service in their communities and around the world. Huggable Heroes is currently searching for a new batch of special kids to acknowledge and reward.

Anyone between the ages of eight and 18 can be nominated for the distinction of Huggable Hero. Entry forms are available online and at Build-A-Bear Workshops throughout the metro.

Atlanta-area stores include:

* North Point Mall (1000 North Point Circle, Alpharetta, 30022)
* Arbor Place Mall (6700 Douglas Boulevard, Douglasville, 30135)
* Town Center Mall (400 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway NW, Kennesaw, 30144)

All nominations are due on Monday, Feb. 28. The entries will be narrowed down to 75 semi-finalists in March and 25 finalists by the end of April. Ten new Huggable Heroes -- eight from the United States and Puerto Rico, and two from Canada -- will be selected to join the ranks of the 100 outstanding alumni from the program's previous years.

Each Huggable Hero will receive a $7,500 college scholarship and a $2,500 donation from the Build-A-Bear Foundation to a 501(c)(3) charity or Canadian cause of his or her choice. In addition, all winners will take a trip to Build-A-Bear Workshop World Bearquarters in St. Louis, Missouri.

"Our Huggable Heroes program was born of the desire to encourage and reward young people to give back to their communities," said Maxine Clark, founder and CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop. "While the monetary prize provides an incentive, it also represents an investment in both the causes these kids support and their education so they can continue to cultivate their leadership skills and achieve even bigger goals."

Throughout the years, Build-A-Bear Workshop has heard thousands of amazing stories of young people who do things both big and small to help improve the lives of others.
