Georgia HS Basketball Team Tops National Rankings

ALPHARETTA, GA -- USA TODAY has released their preseason national rankings for high school basketball and one Georgia team is certainly well-represented. Milton is ranked as the number one basketball team in the country.

Here is what Jim Halley, the man who compiles the Super 25 rankings, had to say about Milton:

"The defending 5A champion Eagles are loaded, with five returning starters and a roster of Division I players, led by Georgia Tech signee Julian Royal, a 6-8 F (17.0 ppg, 8 rpg); G Shannon Scott (13.0 ppg, 8.0), a Ohio State signee; and Vanderbilt signee Dai-Jon Parker, a 6-3 G (14.0 ppg, 4.0 apg)."

The other two remaining starters also hold major college offers. Jordan Lloyd has signed with Furman and junior Evan Nolte holds offers from ACC, SEC, Big Ten, etc. schools. Junior Shaquille Johnson, a transfer from Salem High School, has an offer from Auburn. The Eagles also return 6-foot-7 senior Alex Walton and Emory & Henry College signee Eric Riley.

Milton went 29-4 last season. They open the season on November 20 in the Eric Snow Sports Verizon Holiday Tournament at Kennesaw State University.

Milton rival Norcross, who almost beat the Eagles in last year's 5A playoffs, also made the Super 25. Here is what Halley had to say about the Blue Devils:

"Last season ended in the playoffs with a one-point loss to eventual 5A champion Milton. With four players committing to Division I schools, the Blue Devils have plenty of talent to contend again for the title, led by 6-5 Nebraska signee Josiah Moore (16.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg) and 6-6 Charlotte signee E. Victor Nickerson. Winder-Barrow transfer Alonzo Nelson-Ododa, a 6-8 PF and Richmond signee, gives the Blue Devils more size."

Junior Norcross guard Chris Bolden is currently committed to Miami.

Norcross opens their season on November 26 in the Waddell Thanksgiving Shootout in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Norcross plays at Milton on November 30.
