Events, Schools

MILTON, GA -- A groundbreaking ceremony for a new high school in the City of Milton is planned for Friday, Oct. 15.

Festivities will begin at 11:00 a.m.; in the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled to Wednesday, Oct. 27, also at 11:00 a.m.

The yet-to-be-named high school is under construction at the intersection of Cogburn Road and Bethany Road (Milton, 30004). When it opens in August of 2012, the 320,885 square foot building of 99 classrooms will house up to 1,937 students in grades nine through 12.

The public is invited to the construction site to view architectural plans, as well as hear from officials about the school's planned features. Refreshments will be served following a presentation and groundbreaking activities. Comfortable shoes with low heels are recommended due to gravel and some possibly muddy areas on the site.

The school was designed by the architectural firm of Chapman, Griffin, Lanier, Sussenbach. Evergreen Construction is the contractor.

To get to the site:

* Take Georgia 400 north to Windward Parkway (Exit 11)

* Turn left on Windward Parkway and proceed 1.6 miles

* At the intersection of Alpharetta Highway (Georgia Highway 9, with the signal light), Windward Parkway changes its name to Cogburn Road

* Continue on Cogburn Road approximately one mile, past Hopewell Middle School and Cogburn Woods Elementary School

* The construction site is located on the right; Kings Ridge Christian School (2765 Bethany Road, Milton, 30004) is directly across from the site
