North Fulton Ready to Host Film, TV Productions

ATLANTA -- The best time to stoke the flames is when the fire is burning hot.

And that's exactly what North Fulton County is doing.

North Fulton joins 15 other communities across the state in being the first to earn the special designation of "camera ready" by the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office. Being named camera ready means that a county has a program that provides film and television production companies with easier, faster and better access to local resources and location information.

2009 was a banner year for filming in Georgia, with more than 348 productions bringing an estimated $770 million to the state's economy, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Productions were shot in 50 Georgia counties over the course of the year, impacting local communities throughout the state. Georgia-lensed movies Zombieland and The Blind Side both opened at number one at the box office.

Films and television programs can also drive increased tourism inspired by the success of a local production.

"We are so excited to partner with the State of Georgia on this initiative. It is a great economic development tool and provides us an invaluable opportunity to showcase the six cities in our area," said Tedra Cheatham, COO and vice-president of economic development for the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.

Producers love Georgia for its diverse settings, tax incentives and talented workforce. More than 25,000 Georgians are currently employed by the entertainment industry, and that number is only expected to grow. The local economic impact from productions can be significant, including hiring of local residents, hotel stays and purchases of goods and services.

But while Georgia has done an effective job of selling itself to production companies, other states have also worked hard to lure film and television programs. Being camera ready will help to ensure that Georgia stays ahead of the competition by meeting the very specific local needs of production companies.

There is a wealth of locations, talent and assets in North Fulton that production companies can use to everyone's advantage. "Camera ready" is one way of making sure that they do.
