Shop with a Cop returns Dec. 11 | Community Spirit
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Alpharetta Police Athletic League (PAL) will host its 14th annual Shop with a Cop event on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Shop with a Cop pairs disadvantaged children with Alpharetta police officers for a holiday shopping spree at Walmart. PAL hopes to help at least 100 kids this year.
"Throughout the year, representatives of the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety come across families who, for whatever reason, face financial challenges," Alpharetta Officer Phil Ritchey said in a statement. "These financial challenges often carry into the holiday season and impact their ability to buy gifts for their children."
Children who participate in Shop with a Cop are given $100 to spend at the Walmart on Windward Parkway. Ritchey said that, although the money is for the children, many of them choose to spend some of it on their parents and siblings.
PAL will continue to spread holiday spirit by delivering meals to some of Alpharetta's neediest families on Saturday, Dec. 15. Residents are welcome to donate canned food to this cause; donation boxes are located in all city public buildings and fire stations.
