Alpharetta PAL Plans Charity Bike Drive

Alpharetta PAL Plans Charity Bike Drive

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Have a used bicycle that's just gathering dust? How about an outgrown bicycle that's going into storage because of a new holiday gift?

Don't get rid of it -- give it to PAL!

The Alpharetta Police Athletics and Activities League (PAL), a non-profit youth organization building leaders for tomorrow, is holding a bike drive at PAL Gym in the Eagle Village Youth Complex behind Alpharetta City Hall (2 Main Street, Alpharetta, 30004).

The aim is to procure enough bicycles for a youth bicycle riding program.

To help, simply bring a gently used bicycle to the PAL Gym on one of two dates:

* Thursday, Jan. 6 -- 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
* Saturday, Jan. 8 -- 10:00 a.m.

Pre-Teen Cancer Survivor Inspires Book Sale Fundraiser

ALPHARETTA, GA -- It all started during a typical November weekend in Alpharetta's Dunmoor subdivision.

Samara Chasin, 12, and her mother Lisa watched their neighborhood's youth tennis team compete against the Horseshoe Bend team.

Nearby, 11-year-old Roswell resident Madie Dreesman cheered during her younger sister's match. A bandana covered Madie's hairless head.

In the car on the way home, Samara's eyes filled with tears. She asked her mother about the little girl with no hair.

Lisa had spoken with Madie and her mother during the match. She explained that Madie had cancer and was undergoing treatment, most likely chemotherapy.
