Healthy soil, composting class offered in Alpharetta

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Fulton County Cooperative Extension, in conjunction with the City of Alpharetta, will hold a “Healthy Soil, Healthy Composting” class on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Alpharetta New City Hall in the Multipurpose Room located at 2 Park Plaza, Alpharetta, GA 30009. Registration is required.

Participants will learn:

  • How better soil for gardens will improve plant health and growth.
  • How to decrease pests and disease.
  • Why composting is a great way to build the health of your garden soil.
  • How nature recycles materials back into soil.

Fulton County invites citizens to Community Days

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County’s annual celebration of Older Americans Month includes an open invitation for seniors, their families and members of the community to participate in Community Days.

Each facility will host a Community Day as a part of a month of special events designed to celebrate national Older Americans month, which is recognized in May.

The theme of this year’s celebration, “Get into the Act,” focuses on encouraging older adults to take charge of their health, engage in their communities, and have a positive impact on the lives of others. By promoting and engaging in activity, wellness, and inclusivity, more Americans than ever before can “Get into the Act.”

(WXIA) -- Pike Nurseries plans to hire about 300 employees for the upcoming spring planting season.

The nursery chain will hold a career fair Wednesday, Mar. 4 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at all its Georgia locations.

Open positions include manager trainees, department heads, sales associates, operations personnel and cashiers. Planting enthusiasts of all skill levels are encouraged to apply.

Fulton County to offers lactation and nutrition education classes

Fulton County to offers lactation and nutrition education classes

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The journey to motherhood is different for every woman. Usually, the first decision she will make as a mom will be how to feed her child.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension, in partnership with WellCare, will sponsor lactation and nutrition education classes to provide facts about breastfeeding and to give practical tips on how to make breastfeeding work while getting the support every mother needs. Pre-registration is required.

The classes will take place at 10 a.m. in the Cooperative Extension office which is located on the first floor of the Central Atlanta Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta. Classes will be held:
