Pike Nurseries to host ‘Pumpkin Planters Make & Take’ class

ATLANTA -- With the Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays right around the corner, now is the perfect time to add a “pop” of pumpkin to get into the fall spirit!

On Saturday, October 18 at 9 a.m., the experts at Pike Nurseries are helping customers celebrate the season with a fun Pumpkin Planters Make & Take customer class. Participants will receive step-by-step guidance to plant a pumpkin filled with pansies, snapdragons, peppers and other fall favorites.

The class costs $30 for supplies, including pumpkins, potting soil and a variety of plants for guests to create their own personalized planter to take home!

Volunteers needed for Dare to Hope Halloween events

(WXIA) -- Dare to Hope, a non-profit organization that helps children with rare and complex medical conditions, will hold several Trunk or Treat parties in north Georgia this weekend.

Volunteers are needed to hand out candy and other goodies at the events, which will serve special needs children in the respective communities.

All Trunk or Treats will take place Saturday, Oct. 18 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; volunteers are asked to arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start of their shifts.

ATLANTA –- As an official kickoff to the fall season, Pike Nurseries is hosting its annual Gardenfest event on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at all garden center locations.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- On Sept. 23, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November. Fulton County Registration and Elections encourages residents to join others across the nation who will be registering to vote.

The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 4 General Election is Monday, Oct. 6. Online voter registration is available, which allows new voters to complete the entire process online at www.fultonelections.com. In Fulton County, residents can register to vote online, at their city hall, the Georgia Department of Driver Services, any Atlanta Fulton County Library Branch, at one of the three registration and elections offices or by mail.

PROBE College Fair coming to Alpharetta

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in north Fulton County next week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at North Point Mall in Alpharetta.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.

Fulton County offers advice for planting backyard garden

Fulton County offers advice for planting backyard garden

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Fulton County Cooperative Extension will teach a “Gardening Made Easy” class to assist residents with starting a backyard garden.

The free class is offered to county residents wanting to plant their own vegetable gardens. The class will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Ellard Farmers Market located at 8400 Holcomb Bridge Road, Alpharetta. Call 404-613-7670 to reserve your space.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of planting a back yard vegetable garden that yields beautiful crops.  They will be taught the newest techniques for planning a garden, preparing the soil and much more to produce delicious, fresh vegetables at harvest time.
