Moms Site Seeks Atlanta's Coolest Kid

ATLANTA -- The social networking site Atlanta MomsLikeMe is on the hunt for Atlanta's Coolest Kid and is offering up an $1,800 prize package to find him or her.

The site is accepting photo entries of children in a cool environment, like snow or a pool, until Friday, March 4.  Then, the public can vote for their favorite cool kid photo.

Voting ends on March 20 and the contestant whose photo received the most votes will score the Grand Prize: a voucher for a three-night stay at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort.  The prize includes golf, tennis, biking and fitness center access.

Alpharetta Elementary Hosts Bowling for Brownies

ALPHARETTA, GA -- On Thursday, Jan. 20, Alpharetta Elementary School hosted a bowling event for a very special group of Girl Scouts.

Troop 10513, Alpharetta Elementary's special needs troop, enjoyed the opportunity to participate in "Bowling for Brownies," a fun team-building exercise created especially for them.

With assistance from parents and other scouts, the members of Troop 10513 rolled balls to knock down six plastic pins at the end of a bowling carpet.

Fifty Girl Scouts who attended the event also showed their community spirit by bringing mittens and gloves to donate to North Fulton Community Charities.

ATLANTA -- The 119 Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host a special Daddy-Daughter Date Night on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Fathers and daughters will be encouraged to spend the evening together, enjoying time in the restaurant and participating in activities.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with," said Robin Lomax, Chick-fil-A area marketing director. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage Atlanta community members to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their loved ones' company over a meal and celebrate the significant relationship in their lives."

Each Chick-fil-A will celebrate in its own way.

Alpharetta Elementary Students Have 'Heart'

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Alpharetta Elementary School hosted its 12th annual Jump Rope for Heart event on Thursday, Jan. 20 and Friday, Jan. 21.

Students in all grades had a great time jumping for a cause. In all, the school raised $5,500 for the American Heart Association, far surpassing its goal of $5,000.

Special thanks goes out to all the parent volunteers, especially Michelle Gordon and Molly Mathis, who spread the word and served refreshments during the event.

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Jessica Harper, a working mother of two, faces the same problem as many of her ilk: how do you feed a family of picky eaters when you're not a kitchen person yourself?

The answer can be found in Harper's new book, The Crabby Cook Cookbook: Recipes and Rants. She will be at the Atlanta area's only Publix Apron's Cooking School (4305 State Bridge Road, Alpharetta, 30022) to give a talk and sign copies on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Harper is an actress who has had roles in such movies as Minority Report, Stardust Memories, Love and Death and Pennies from Heaven.
