Alpharetta DPS Providing Free Child Safety Seat Check

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's fire services division will host a free child safety seat checkup.

The event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 3 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1 (2970 Webb Bridge Road, Alpharetta, 30009).

National statistics indicate that four out of five child safety seats are misused every day in the United States. Certified child safety technicians will be on hand to install, evaluate, adjust and demonstrate the proper methods of using a child restraint seat.

Additional safety information will be made available at the event. Parents are encouraged to bring their infants or children and a car seat to receive this valuable instruction. It just might save a child's life.

HomeStretch Launches Fundraising Campaign

HomeStretch, a non-profit that helps homeless families in North Metro Atlanta with temporary housing and provides educational skills, has launched a fundraising campaign using Give By Cell.

HomeStretch has been providing families with low-rent housing and structured education programs for 17 years. There are 24 units where families can stay for six months to two years until they graduate from the program.

Last year nine families graduated; three of those families were approved for Habitat for Humanity homes and a fourth purchased their own home. These families go forth to own homes, having obtained new life skills such as vocational training and money management.
