FOREST PARK, Ga. -- How do you expose urban youth to Georgia’s agriculture? You open a Pizza Farm!

Fourth and fifth grade students from the Atlanta metropolitan area will learn about Georgia agriculture by making, and eating, pizza at the second annual Pizza Farm event.

County agents with the Cooperative Extension Metro Collaborative of Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb and Clayton counties will lead the event set for Oct. 21-23 at the Georgia State Farmers Market in Forest Park, Ga. The students will learn how dairy, vegetables, grains and meats come together to make the pizza.

Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmers Market ends season Aug. 27

FULTON COUNTY, ga. -- On Wednesday, August 27 at 10 a.m., Fulton County Cooperative Extension will celebrate the successful fourth season of the Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Market. This year, the program provided approximately 31.5 tons of fresh produce to more than 6,900 residents in 24 Fulton County communities.

The celebration will take place at Berean seventh Day Adventist Church located at 291 Hamilton E. Holmes Drive, Atlanta and is open to all Fulton County residents.

The closing ceremony will include comments from Chairman John Eaves, Fulton County Board of Commissioners and Valeria Pickard, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Fulton Fresh was founded in 2011 as part of Fulton County’s continuous effort to address health disparities. Communities served by the seasonal program benefit from the delivery of fresh produce, nutrition education and were taught how to prepare tasty, healthy meals with the produce they received.

Chuice comes to metro Atlanta Whole Foods

(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- Atlanta-based Chuice, maker of blends of bottled, plant-based foods landed Whole Foods Market as its newest retailer in Atlanta.

The beverage is now available at Whole Foods in Buckhead and Midtown, and is slated for distribution to all eight metro Atlanta stores by November.

Dr. Sujit Sharma, a practicing emergency room pediatrician at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, is the CEO for the startup.

"This is an opportunity to be part fo a solution-oriented approach to disease prevention," Sharma said in a statement. "Chuice is far more than just juice, containing high quantities of nutrient dense fiber missing in almost all drinkable refreshments on the market. Nuts and seeds in Chuice also provide high quality protein, as well as healthy fats, that are also missing from most juices. The result is a complete meal."

Chuice was created by Taste of Earth LLC founder and personal trainer Ladell Hill.

'Fat Sick & Nearly Dead 2' coming to metro Atlanta theaters

(WXIA) -- A sequel to the popular health documentary Fat Sick & Nearly Dead will be screened at several Atlanta-area movie theaters next month.

Fat Sick & Nearly Dead 2 will play Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

The first film, released in 2010, followed Australian filmmaker Joe Cross in his quest to lose 100 pounds by consuming fruit and vegetable juice. In the second movie, Cross and a team of experts will explore broader themes of diet and health.

Cross credited his juice-based diet with helping him lose a considerable amount of weight and rid his body of a chronic auto-immune disease. He has since founded Reboot with Joe, which supports people in their decision to make positive dietary and lifestyle changes.

Eye care experts urge parents to leave fireworks to pros

ATLANTA -- Thousands of Georgia parents are buying sparklers for their children this Fourth of July, thinking they are a safe way to celebrate. But, as a Georgia eye expert warns, sparklers heat up to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit -- hot enough to melt some metals -- and are the number one cause of fireworks injuries requiring trips to the emergency room.

Members of the Georgia Optometric Association are urging parents to leave all the fireworks to the professionals and avoid fireworks that may cause serious eye injuries when used inappropriately. Some of the most common fireworks injuries are eye abrasions, lacerations, contusions and foreign matter in the eye. The majority of these cases are related to the use of sparklers.

ROSWELL, Ga. -- North Fulton Hospital recently received a Target Award from the Georgia Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations.

The Roswell hospital's marketing department was recognized for its surgery advertising campaign, which included TV, digital and print ads featuring orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Garrett.

North Fulton Hospital representatives claimed the gold-level award in the Total Advertising Campaign category during the Georgia Hospital Association's marketing and PR conference.

"It is nice to have our peers look at our work and give their feedback on its creativity and functionality," North Fulton Hospital development director Lindsey Harber said. "I am very proud of our marketing team and the work that we are doing. Hopefully we can continue creating engaging and inspiring marketing messages to help our community better understand our services."

Kroger raises $232K for Children's Miracle Network

Kroger raises $232K for Children's Miracle Network

(WXIA) -- Kroger customers in metro Atlanta recently showed that they are a charitable bunch.

During the final two weeks in May, shoppers raised $232,000 for the Children's Miracle Network through the Miracle Balloons promotion.

For only $1, a customer could purchase a paper balloon to hang in a local Kroger. All proceeds from the fundraiser went directly to Children's Miracle Network hospitals and health networks, such as Children's Hospital of Georgia in Augusta and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

"Kroger customers consistently show their care for our communities by constantly going above and beyond with their charitable donations," Glynn Jenkins, spokesperson for Kroger's Atlanta division, said in a release. "Through their support of the Miracle Balloons program, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of children."
