ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, in joint operation with the Sandy Springs police arrested Edward Kim for carjacking/kidnapping and armed robbery on Wednesday.
The two investigations had been conducted between the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's Criminal Investigative Division and the City of Alpharetta since the crimes occurred on August 17. The carjacking happened at 8:40 p.m., following the armed robbery at Bejewel at 12:49 p.m.
"I am grateful our Alpharetta detectives obtained the significant information which greatly aided the other agencies in locating the suspect. He committed numerous violent crimes and was a danger to our communities. This incident highlights the importance of our law enforcement agencies sharing information and using existing technology to solve these crimes. Law enforcement partnerships between agencies are essential to the success of outcomes as evident by this quick arrest. I commend the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and Sandy Springs Police for locating the suspect. I also commend the Duluth Police Department for their valuable assistance," Alpharetta Public Safety Director Gary D. George said.
Alpharetta Police have charged Kim with High jacking of a motor vehicle - felony, Kidnapping - felony, Armed robbery (2 counts) - felony, Cruelty to children (carjacking victim was a juvenile 16 years old), Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime - felony, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon - felony, Aggravated assault - felony, Terroristic threats.
