ATLANTA -- As New Year's Eve approaches, the Atlanta Police Department is reminding citizens that there should be no celebratory gunfire when 2013 hits.
According to Carlos Campos of the APD, celebratory gunfire is when shots are fired in the air as means of entertainment. However, those celebratory shots can have the same impact as when a gun is aimed at someone and fired.
Campos said a bullet can travel up to a mile high and then fall, with the potential to strike someone below and cause serious injury or death.
Celebratory gunfire is against the law in Atlanta, and those caught will likely face a misdemeanor and a fine of up to $1,000.
