See the salon where Santa's helpers get their style | News
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- We all know Santa can't be everywhere. Sometimes he needs his helpers, and his helpers need to know how to look like Santa.
To do it, they go to Golden Scissors -- Metro Atlanta's foremost Santa salon.
"It's a fun process," says Sharon Franklin, who runs the salon. "At least, it is for me; not for them, maybe."
Franklin and her team have been coiffing Clauses for 35 years.
"The first year we did it, we did it for free," she said. "We thought we'd get more ladies to come out and be blondes, but instead we got more Santa Clauses."
Today Franklin's team styles nearly 200 of Santa's helpers every year, and not just from Georgia.
Says Franklin, "They come from Mexico, Canada, and New York, among others."
And they don't just pop in for a trim.
"It's at least six hours and could be two days," Franklin says.
That includes bleaching, rinsing, curling, and blushing.
"There's a little ego in all of us," said Phil Ludtke, one of the many Santa's helpers who came on this day to Golden Scissors. "We like to look like the guy in the picture."
