Jack Everest, a local Woodstock youth athlete, has had a wildly successful month.  Everest, age 8, placed first in the USA Track & Field Regional Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships which took place in Myrtle Beach, SC this past weekend, on November 19, 2011.  The week before, Jack also earned the #1 spot in the State Championships which was in Peachtree City on November 12, 2001.  The Regional Championship included Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, & Washington DC.  Everest won in the 2000 Meter Run CC Sub-Bantam Boys event which encompasses runners born no earlier than 2003.

Jack is not only an accomplished runner–this busy 8 year old does several youth triathlons a year, including the IronKids Alpharetta Triathlon which is the largest youth triathlon in the United States. Jack won the IronKids triathlon which took place in September. He is also an avid swimmer and swims for Chattahoochee Gold and attends numerous swim meets throughout the year.  Jack is a 3rd grader at Carmel Elementary School in Woodstock and achieves very good grades while meeting the demands of his athletic training.  Jack is coached by Kevin Matthews, Head Coach of the Etowah Youth Track Club.

Next up for Everest is the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on Saturday, December 10, 2011 in Myrtle Beach SC.  The race venue at Whispering Pines Golf Course, located just one-half mile from the Atlantic Ocean, is flat and fast and promises to be an exciting contest of the country's fastest youth runners.

Good luck, Jack, and may the force be with you!  Your hometown is proud of you and all the other Cherokee County runners!
