FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The Fulton County School System has announced that new principals have been selected for four schools.

The appointments were approved at the Friday, Apr. 22 school board meeting.

Alpharetta Elementary names new principal

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Dr. Sam Taylor, the area superintendent, recently introduced Adam Maroney to the Alpharetta Elementary School community.

Maroney is the school's new principal. He is replacing Pat Reed, who recently retired.

Maroney has many years of experience in Fulton County schools. Most recently, he served as the assistant principal at New Prospect Elementary School.

Several authors to visit Alpharetta in April

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Barnes & Noble at Mansell Crossings (7660 Northpoint Parkway, Alpharetta, 30022) is known throughout North Fulton as the place to go to meet popular authors.

Several household names, as well as some up-and-coming writers, will stop by this Alpharetta bookstore in April.

Chick will give a talk and sign copies of his books, which chronicle the adventures of Noah and Megan, a brother and sister duo whose best friends, Richie and Ella, live next door to a zoo.

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Fulton County Schools students, staff and parents, as well as local residents, are invited to attend a forum and meet superintendent finalist Robert Avossa.

The North Fulton meet and greet will be on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at Centennial High School (9310 Scott Road, Roswell, 30076). It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by a community meeting at 7 p.m.

This meeting is part of a 14-day public comment period held before the school board can formally tender the position to Avossa.

The superintendent finalist will use this opportunity to share his educational philosophies and personal background, as well as engage in question and answer sessions.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The Fulton County Board of Education announces that Robert Avossa is its finalist for the Fulton County School System superintendent.

Following a 14-day public comment period, which begins on Monday, Apr. 11, the board plans to formally tender the position to Avossa.

"Robert Avossa's educational philosophy has been shaped by his personal and professional experiences. He is a strong coalition builder who believes that every child can learn," said Linda Schultz, president of the Fulton County School Board. "Robert has worked in systems that are as large or larger than Fulton, and he knows how to include all stakeholders in the educational process. He has particular expertise leveraging data-driven accountability programs and demonstrated results in raising the bar and closing the gap.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Popular country star Miranda Lambert will perform at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park (2200 Encore Parkway, Alpharetta, 30009) on Saturday, June 4, along with special guests Josh Kelley and Ashton Shepherd.

The box office for Miranda's concert opened at 10 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 8.

Tickets range in price from $19 to $49 each and may be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre box office.

Miranda Lambert's freshman effort, 2005's "Kerosene," put her in an exclusive club as one of only seven artists in the history of SoundScan to debut at number one on the country sales chart with a first album.
