Fulton County Schools' Hardship Transfer Applications Due Feb. 15

FULTON COUNTY, GA -- As of Tuesday, Jan. 4, applications are available for parents who wish to apply for a 2011-12 hardship transfer or to renew a current transfer to another Fulton County elementary, middle or high school.

Parents can use an online form, available under the "Parents" section of the Fulton County School System's Web site, to enter their information and print it to obtain signatures and/or supporting documentation.

Although using an online form will help expedite processing time, applications can also be picked up at all Fulton schools as well as the Fulton County Schools Administrative Center (786 Cleveland Avenue SW, Atlanta, 30315).

The deadline for submitting a transfer application is Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 4:30 p.m.

Nation's Top High School Basketball Players Coming to Alpharetta for 'Hoops in Overdrive'

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The third annual "Hoops in Overdrive" basketball tournament brings 28 teams, 150 Division 1 athletes and some of the nation's brightest talent to Centennial High School (9310 Scott Road, Alpharetta, 30022).

The three-day tournament will take place from Thursday, Dec. 30 to Saturday, Jan. 1 and will welcome the United States' consensus top rated high school senior, Austin Rivers of Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida.

The 6'5" Rivers is son of Boston Celtics head coach and NBA legend Doc Rivers.

Creek View Elementary Named NFL Play 60 Super School

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Creek View Elementary School in Alpharetta was recently named an NFL Play 60 Super School.

As a reward for achieving this honor, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White and an NFL representative visited the school on Tuesday, Dec. 7 to deliver a $10,000 grant.

White spoke to Creek View students about the importance of fitness and nutrition. He also led a PE class of 30 students.

Creek View was among over 100 Metro Atlanta schools that participated in Back to Football Friday on Sept. 10. Members of the school's PTA and PE department partnered to plan special health and fitness-related events for the students that day, and documented the festivities with photos and essays that were submitted for the grant.

Milton High Basketball Team to Play on ESPN RISE

MILTON, GA -- Milton High School's basketball team is currently ranked No. 3 in the Powerade Fab 50 ESPN RISE Team Rankings.

On Saturday, Jan. 15, this winning team will be put to the test by competing in the ESPN RISE 2010-2011 High School Basketball Showcase. Milton will face the No. 2 team -- Oak Hill Academy from Mouth of Wilson, Virginia -- in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Spalding Hoophall Classic at Springfield College's Blake Arena in Springfield, Massachusetts.

FULTON COUNTY, GA -- Each member of the Fulton County Board of Education sponsors a monthly meeting open to all members of the community.

The sessions provide an opportunity for direct contact with community members and give board members a chance to listen to local issues and concerns.

Webb Bridge Middle Lauded as Breakthrough School

Webb Bridge Middle Lauded as Breakthrough School

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Webb Bridge Middle School in Alpharetta was recently named as a Breakthrough Middle School by the State of Georgia.

The honor, which is bestowed by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP), is the highest honor that a middle school can earn through the organization.

Webb Bridge joins Jonesville Middle School in Carrollton as one of the few middle schools in Metro Atlanta to receive this distinction for 2010. Members of GASSP met to honor the schools at the Jekyll Island Club on Jekyll Island on Sunday, Nov. 7.

"Webb Bridge Middle School was one of 13 schools identified this year by GASSP as one of the best middle schools in the state," said Dr. Joe Hutcheson, middle school coordinator for GASSP.

Milton High to Host Georgia Regional Cheerleading Competition

MILTON, GA -- Milton High School (13025 Birmingham Highway, Milton, 30004) will host all-star, collegiate, school and recreational cheerleading teams from throughout the Southeast at Coastal Cheer & Dance Events' Georgia Regional Competition.

The event will take place in the school's main gym on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
