3 Ga. Lottery players statewide win $10K prizes

ATLANTA – Georgia Lottery players statewide won big from Friday’s Mega Millions drawing.

Winning tickets worth $10,000 were sold in Dewy Rose, Alpharetta and Macon.

Winning numbers from Friday’s Mega Millions drawing were: 11-15-35-43-49 and the Mega Ball was 41.

Tuesday’s jackpot is at an estimated $12 million to a single annuity winner.

It only takes $1 to play Mega Millions for a chance to win big. Players can multiply prizes with the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Riverside Farmers Market opens June 1

The Riverside Farmers Market will open for its fourth season on Saturday, June 1, 2013. The popular market is operated by Fulton County Cooperative Extension.

The market will return to the same location, in the parking lot of Roswell City Hall located at 38 Hill Street. Hours are Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through September.  The market is open rain or shine.

The 2013 season promises to be the strongest yet for the Riverside Farmers Market, with more than 15 vendors. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, vendors will provide knife sharpening, honey, baked goods, eco-friendly clothing, as well as live performances by local musicians.

Market visitors can also get free advice from UGA Fulton County Cooperative Extension Agents and Master Gardeners on topics ranging from planting a garden, to radon detection to canning.

$1 million lottery ticket sold in Alpharetta

ATLANTA – A winning Georgia Lottery ticket worth $1 million was sold in Alpharetta. Chevron Food Mart, located at 6415 Atlanta Highway, sold the lucky ticket from the instant game $1,000,000 Benjamins.

The winner, Scott Harris of Sugar Hill, claimed his prize recently at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.

ATLANTA -- Pike Nurseries is holding a free class to help homeowners learn ways to draw birds to their backyards.

According to Pike Nurseries, roughly 350 species of birds live in Georgia. The birding class will teach participants the types of seed that are best for attracting birds, the three essentials needed to draw birds and how to provide for birds during the cold winter months.

Avalon to break ground Jan. 28

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Avalon, a new mixed-use project coming to Alpharetta, is counting down the days until it breaks ground.

Demolition and site work will begin Jan. 28, according to the project's Facebook page.

The old parking structure will be "history," says the post. The project's Twitter feed is going so far as to ask people how it should be done: "Should we use a wrecking ball or excavator? You vote."

Avalon is a $600 million development planned at Ga. 400 and Old Milton Parkway.

Phase One will include 389,000 square feet of retail, 250 multi-family units, 101 single-family units and 83,000 square feet of office space, according to previous reports.
