New Disney Concept Store Coming to Perimeter Mall

DUNWOODY, GA -- In 2010, Disney Store began a successful launch of several interactive and immersive stores throughout the United States.

Now, in the new year, the company continues its mission to add more than 25 new and remodeled locations, with the ultimate goal of transforming all of its more than 350 stores worldwide.

The first new Disney Store in Georgia will be added to Perimeter Mall (4400 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody, 30346) sometime in 2011.

ATLANTA -- Surveys show that today's young people are more in touch with the needs of their communities than ever before.

In a recent study conducted by Build-A-Bear Workshop, 98% of the 400 kids polled said that they believe it is important to help others.

Build-A-Bear Workshop founded its Huggable Heroes program to recognize and encourage young leaders who provide extraordinary service in their communities and around the world. Huggable Heroes is currently searching for a new batch of special kids to acknowledge and reward.

Anyone between the ages of eight and 18 can be nominated for the distinction of Huggable Hero.

New 'Girl of the Year' to Be Unveiled at North Point Mall

ALPHARETTA, GA -- For American Girl fans, the introduction of the newest Girl of the Year character causes enormous excitement.

On Saturday, Jan. 1, girls and their parents are invited to line up in front of American Girl Atlanta for the official unveiling of Kanani, American Girl's 2011 Girl of the Year.

Girls will experience the warm, tropical world of Hawaii during the weekend-long Kanani celebration. Guests in attendance will be among the first to see the brand new Kanani doll, accessories and books, and learn about Kanani's inspiring story and her love of sharing the aloha spirit.

Each girl in attendance will receive a free grass skirt for her American Girl doll and enjoy Hula dance demonstrations by a professional Hawaiian dance troupe.

Cinderella's Closet Working to Make Prom Special for Everyone

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Cinderella's Closet & More of Atlanta, Inc. is currently seeking donations for the upcoming 2011 prom season.

All donations are tax deductible and can be dropped off at the Youth Center of Alpharetta Methodist Church (69 North Main Street, Alpharetta, 30009) on Saturday, Jan. 22 and Sunday, Jan. 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The greatest need is for modern formal prom gowns in sizes zero to four and plus sizes 16 to 5X. Styles must be new or gently used, but no more than one to three years old. Gowns should be dry cleaned and on hangers.

Tuxedos or dark colored suits are also needed, as well as vests, shoes and ties.

Alpharetta Company Donates $10,000 to Forsyth Senior Services

ALPHARETTA, GA -- An Alpharetta-based company worked hard all year to brighten the lives of seniors in Forsyth County.

The employees of Fischer Connectors, Inc. raised $10,000 for the Meals on Wheels program sponsored by Forsyth County Senior Services.

Fischer Connectors CEO and president Stephen Gosk and human resources director Diane Nolan presented the check to representatives from Forsyth County on Thursday, Dec. 16.

"This contribution will go far and feed many," said Shelley Johnson, director of the Forsyth County Senior Services Center. "We truly rely on the generosity of corporate donations to provide for the 475 seniors now receiving services through our center.

Pre-Teen Cancer Survivor Inspires Book Sale Fundraiser

ALPHARETTA, GA -- It all started during a typical November weekend in Alpharetta's Dunmoor subdivision.

Samara Chasin, 12, and her mother Lisa watched their neighborhood's youth tennis team compete against the Horseshoe Bend team.

Nearby, 11-year-old Roswell resident Madie Dreesman cheered during her younger sister's match. A bandana covered Madie's hairless head.

In the car on the way home, Samara's eyes filled with tears. She asked her mother about the little girl with no hair.

Lisa had spoken with Madie and her mother during the match. She explained that Madie had cancer and was undergoing treatment, most likely chemotherapy.

Downtown Alpharetta Kicks Off Holiday Season

ALPHARETTA, GA -- A weekend of festivities will ring in the holiday season Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5 in downtown Alpharetta.

The fun kicks off with a Christmas Open House sponsored by the Downtown Alpharetta Trade Association on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Shoppers will enjoy refreshments, in-store specials and wonderful gift selections at all participating stores.

A special Christmas Farmer's Market will be open until 5:00 p.m.
