Alpharetta PAL Plans "Shop with a Cop"

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Alpharetta Police Athletic/Activities League (PAL) will host the annual "Shop with a Cop" event on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the Alpharetta Walmart (5200 Windward Parkway, Alpharetta, 30004).

With exceptionally high unemployment in Georgia, the generosity of the public is more significant than ever, said Laurie Nicholson, Alpharetta PAL executive officer. This year, PAL aims to help more than 75 children. Each child will be accompanied by a police officer, firefighter or public safety volunteer as he or she shops for desired holiday gifts.

"Throughout the year, representatives of the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety come across families who, for whatever reason, face financial challenges," said Nicholson. "These financial challenges oftentimes carry into the holiday season and impact their ability to buy gifts for their children."

With the assistance of Walmart, Alpharetta PAL will help ensure that many deserving children are recipients of holiday cheer.

Each child will be able to spend up to $100. Although this allotment is theirs to spend on items for themselves, these children often elect to spend some of the money on gifts for their parents or siblings.

In addition to Shop with a Cop, PAL will be delivering holiday meals to the neediest of families on Saturday, Dec. 18. Baskets will be delivered by North Fulton police officers and fire personnel.
