Ariel Sharon's Former Advisor to Speak at Gesher L'Torah

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Dr. Ra'anan Gissin, former senior advisor and spokesperson for Israel Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, is planning a visit to Congregation Gesher L'Torah (4320 Kimball Bridge Road, Alpharetta, 30022).

He will give a speech about the "greening" of Israel, "creating a better future," on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 p.m.

In recent years, Dr. Gissin has become one of Israel's leading spokesmen for the foreign press and the international community on security and strategic issues and the peace process.

His distinguished career with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began in 1979 with his position as a strategic analyst in the planning branch. At the time, he was involved in the planning and implementation of the Sinai withdrawal, the major part of the Israel/Egypt peace treaty.

During most of the 1980s, which included the war in Lebanon and the first intifada, he served as IDF spokesman. In 1991, he served as special ambassador to the Israeli Delegation at the Madrid Peace Conference and the subsequent negotiations with Arab and Palestinian delegations in Washington, D.C.

After retiring from active duty in 1993, Dr. Gissin initiated and organized the Pension 2000 Conference in Israel with senior Israeli economic leaders, and top fund executives and investors from the United States. In 1996, he was appointed spokesperson of the newly created Ministry of National Infrastructures, headed by Ariel Sharon.

Dr. Gissin's presentation is free and open to the public.
