ATLANTA -- Nearly 2,000 people will become Roman Catholic during this year's Season of Lent.

The Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion will be on Sunday, Mar. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Atlanta Civic Center (395 Piedmont Avenue NE, 30308).

Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory, assisted by Bishop Luis R. Zarama, will preside.

"This joyful ceremony will welcome the more than 1,850 individuals who are preparing to join the Catholic Church this Easter," said Reverend Theodore Book, director of the Office for Divine Worship at the Archdiocese of Atlanta. "They will be accompanied by many of the individuals who are supporting them on their journey into the Catholic faith."

The Rite will be conducted in a number of languages -- including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese, French, Korean, Igbo and Chinese -- to express the cultural diversity of the Catholic Church in North and Central Georgia.

"This solemn and joyful ceremony will represent the Catholicity of the Church -- one Church embracing people from every land, people and nation," said Rev. Book.

Georgia United Credit Union is helping underwrite this event for the Archdiocese.
