Fulton County offers guidance, support for teen dads

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Teen fathers in need of guidance and support on how to properly nurture their infants are invited to participate in a countywide program.

Teen DADS (Determined, Active, Dedicated, Supportive) provides young fathers with legal assistance to legitimize a child or children, and helps with job searches and continuing education to improve the dads' financial futures.

The program also includes gift cards to purchase diapers, formula, food, car seats and other baby items.

Slots are open for 40 fathers in the Teen DADS program. Interested teens must commit to active participation. A graduation is held for everyone who completes the program.

On March 22, Yanni launched a 40-date tour of the US. The tour will take him through theaters in major cities across the US including Radio City Music Hall in NYC and the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Each member of the Fulton County Board of Education sponsors a monthly meeting open to all members of the community.

The sessions provide an opportunity for direct contact with community members and give board members a chance to listen to local issues and concerns.

Board members have set the following meeting dates for April:

Several authors to visit Alpharetta in April

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Barnes & Noble at Mansell Crossings (7660 Northpoint Parkway, Alpharetta, 30022) is known throughout North Fulton as the place to go to meet popular authors.

Several household names, as well as some up-and-coming writers, will stop by this Alpharetta bookstore in April.

Bryan Chick, author of The Secret Zoo and The Secret Zoo: Secrets and Shadows

Chick will give a talk and sign copies of his books, which chronicle the adventures of Noah and Megan, a brother and sister duo whose best friends, Richie and Ella, live next door to a zoo.

Meet and greet with Avossa on Apr. 20

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Fulton County Schools students, staff and parents, as well as local residents, are invited to attend a forum and meet superintendent finalist Robert Avossa.

The North Fulton meet and greet will be on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at Centennial High School (9310 Scott Road, Roswell, 30076). It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by a community meeting at 7 p.m.

This meeting is part of a 14-day public comment period held before the school board can formally tender the position to Avossa.

The superintendent finalist will use this opportunity to share his educational philosophies and personal background, as well as engage in question and answer sessions.
