Alpharetta Elementary Hosts Bowling for Brownies

Alpharetta Elementary Hosts Bowling for Brownies

ALPHARETTA, GA -- On Thursday, Jan. 20, Alpharetta Elementary School hosted a bowling event for a very special group of Girl Scouts.

Troop 10513, Alpharetta Elementary's special needs troop, enjoyed the opportunity to participate in "Bowling for Brownies," a fun team-building exercise created especially for them.

With assistance from parents and other scouts, the members of Troop 10513 rolled balls to knock down six plastic pins at the end of a bowling carpet.

Fifty Girl Scouts who attended the event also showed their community spirit by bringing mittens and gloves to donate to North Fulton Community Charities.

ATLANTA -- The 119 Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host a special Daddy-Daughter Date Night on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Fathers and daughters will be encouraged to spend the evening together, enjoying time in the restaurant and participating in activities.

"We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage Atlanta community members to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their loved ones' company over a meal and celebrate the significant relationship in their lives."

Each Chick-fil-A will celebrate in its own way.

Running Away to Join the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus

OK, so I’m not really running away to JOIN the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus even though I’d LOVE to hang with the clowns, but I am going... And, I want you to go, too!

I’ve got a FOUR pack of tickets to give to one lucky winner for the show on Thursday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Phillips Arena in Atlanta. There’s also an All Access Pre-Show where all ticket holders can meet the performers and animals, learn circus skills and enjoy a taste of the performance before the show starts. Maybe I will get to hook up with those clowns after all. Ahem.

Blood Donations Desperately Needed

Blood Donations Desperately Needed

DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- The American Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region (9851 Commerce Way, Douglasville, 30135) reports that this week's winter weather has resulted in more than 2,600 units of blood and platelets that could not be collected due to closed donation centers and cancelled blood drives.

"The result of the cancellation of that many blood drives and consequently all those blood donations translates into as many as 24,000 blood products that we now do not have available for patients who may need them," said Chris Hrouda, executive vice president of Red Cross Biomedical Services.

Hrouda noted that more than 6,000 blood donations could not be collected in the Southeast because of the storms that crippled the region. Nearly 2,000 blood donations were not collected in the Northeast on Wednesday, Jan.
