A Wish for Wendy to Benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Join the fun at the 11th annual Wish for Wendy Softball Challenge and Silent Auction on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The event will take place at the North Park (13450 Cogburn Road, Milton, 30004) ball fields. Proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Fans are welcome to come for the fun, sample the food and join the March to a Million to find the cure for cystic fibrosis. Softball, music and a clown for the children are just a few of the event highlights.

Silent auction items include sports memorabilia, art, gift certificates, salon services and more. Admission to the event is free.

Celebrate America Recycles Day at the Recycling Center

ROSWELL, GA -- On Saturday, Nov. 6 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., residents and customers of the Roswell Recycling Center (11570 Maxwell Road, Alpharetta, 30009) are invited to a customer appreciation event.

The first 100 cars will receive a special America Recycles Day gift, and from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Atlanta Recycling Solutions will be grilling hot dogs for customers and staff.

Keep Roswell Beautiful will be on hand with their mascot, KiRBy, and handing out information and other giveaways.

Alpharetta DPS Providing Free Child Safety Seat Check

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's fire services division will host a free child safety seat checkup.

The event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 3 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1 (2970 Webb Bridge Road, Alpharetta, 30009).

National statistics indicate that four out of five child safety seats are misused every day in the United States. Certified child safety technicians will be on hand to install, evaluate, adjust and demonstrate the proper methods of using a child restraint seat.

Additional safety information will be made available at the event. Parents are encouraged to bring their infants or children and a car seat to receive this valuable instruction. It just might save a child's life.

Digital Bookmobile Coming to Johns Creek

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The Digital Bookmobile is coming to metro Atlanta. Its first stop is the Ocee Library (5090 Abbotts Bridge Road, Johns Creek, 30005) on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Digital Bookmobile, developed inside a 74-foot, 18-wheel tractor-trailer, is a high-tech update of the traditional Bookmobile that has served communities for decades. This one-of-a-kind community outreach vehicle creates an engaging download experience with the host library's "Virtual Branch" download website and digital collection of eBooks, audiobooks and more.

Bulky Trash Amnesty Day in North Fulton

FULTON COUNTY, GA -- The Public Works Departments of Roswell, Alpharetta and Milton, along with Keep Roswell Beautiful, are joining together to offer residents a chance to clean out their garages, basements and attics, and dispose of unwanted items at no charge.

On Saturday, Oct. 30 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., residents of Roswell, Alpharetta and Milton may bring certain items to the Roswell Public Works Divison (1810 Hembree Road, Roswell, 30076). Proof of residency will be required; utility bills are preferred, but Roswell residents with the city window decal do not need any other form of identification.

This event has been popular in the past, so some delays are expected. Materials will only be accepted on-site on the day of the event.

Alpharetta PAL Plans Scare Fair, Haunted House

ALPHARETTA, GA -- A community haunted house will open its creaky doors in downtown Alpharetta on Friday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 30, when the Alpharetta Police Athletic League (PAL) converts its gym into a spooky scare zone.

On Friday, the haunted house (50 Jones Avenue, Alpharetta, 30009) will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., as police officers and firefighters dress up to deliver frights. Concessions will be available for a nominal fee.

On Saturday, the event will begin at 4:00 p.m. with outdoor activities, including a moonwalk, a cookout, cotton candy, popcorn and more.

Big Lots Brings Its Values to Alpharetta

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Big Lots, the nation's largest broadline closeout retailer, has announced that it will open its newest store on Friday, Oct. 22 in Alpharetta.

The new store is located in the Stonewood Shopping Center (670 North Main Street, Alpharetta, 30009). It is one of 80 new Big Lots that the company plans to open nationwide in 2010.

The Alpharetta Big Lots boasts 22,500 square feet of retail space filled with extreme value items that typically sell for 20% to 40% less than discount stores and up to 70% below traditional retailers.

"At Big Lots, our easy-to-shop stores and extreme brand name deals have been big hits with customers for more than 40 years, and we are thrilled to bring that same successful concept to a new group of shoppers," said Rob Claxton, senior vice-president of marketing for Big Lots.

The grand opening on Oct. 22 will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting.
