Have Breakfast with Santa at the Village Tavern

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Village Tavern (11555 Rainwater Drive, Alpharetta, 30009) invites Atlantans to get into the holiday spirit by hosting its 9th annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 11.

The festivities will kick off at 9:00 a.m. with Santa's arrival atop a fire truck as he greets the children. Participants will enjoy a specially prepared breakfast buffet and a morning filled with fun and excitement.

Every child will meet Santa personally, presenting an ideal photo opportunity for parents who bring their cameras. Santa will also read The Night Before Christmas to the crowd. Bloody Marys and mimosas will be available for adults.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under. Space is limited; call 770-777-6490 to make a reservation.

Charity Polo Match and Autumn Fete

On October 31st, at noon, Tomorrow’s Luminaries Foundation will host their Inaugural Polo Match & Autumn Fête at Chukkar Farm Polo Club in Alpharetta, GA. The event will feature complimentary wine, champagne, and an exquisite dessert bar. This Derby-inspired event will have contests for the best hat, best picnic, and best cocktail. All of the proceeds from the event will go directly towards the Foundation’s programs to help brighten the future of Atlanta’s young people.

Groundbreaking for New High School to Take Place Oct. 15

MILTON, GA -- A groundbreaking ceremony for a new high school in the City of Milton is planned for Friday, Oct. 15.

Festivities will begin at 11:00 a.m.; in the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled to Wednesday, Oct. 27, also at 11:00 a.m.

The yet-to-be-named high school is under construction at the intersection of Cogburn Road and Bethany Road (Milton, 30004). When it opens in August of 2012, the 320,885 square foot building of 99 classrooms will house up to 1,937 students in grades nine through 12.

The public is invited to the construction site to view architectural plans, as well as hear from officials about the school's planned features. Refreshments will be served following a presentation and groundbreaking activities. Comfortable shoes with low heels are recommended due to gravel and some possibly muddy areas on the site.

The school was designed by the architectural firm of Chapman, Griffin, Lanier, Sussenbach.

Woodstock Goes Wild

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Woodstock Goes Wild, an annual fundraiser event that honors foster children and families, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Woodstock (11905 Highway 92, Woodstock, 30188).

Woodstock Goes Wild is a fun-filled evening where children can meet and touch wild animals, enjoy musical acts and participate in other family-friendly activities. Ticket sale proceeds benefit Rome's Open Door Children's Home, a safe house for abused and neglected children.

This year will mark the 9th annual Woodstock Gone Wild and will host several special guests, including Mary Perdue, First Lady of Georgia and an advocate for foster children. Wildlife expert Pete Gros will be in attendance, along with a number of his animal friends from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

Rivers Alive Cleans Up Milton

MILTON, GA -- Milton's "Rivers Alive" waterway cleanup, education and protection program will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Milton Grows Green Committee (MGG) is co-sponsoring the event with Bailey Farm & Gardens, Inc., which has been involved with the project for 13 years.

Rivers Alive 2010 will kick off from its traditional location at Bailey Farm & Gardens (255 Hickory Flat Road, Milton, 30004), one mile west of the Birmingham Crossroads. Everyone, regardless of age, is welcome to help.

Depending on age and capabilities, volunteers will be assigned to predetermined local waterways to remove debris deposited from upstream and left by passers-by.

Manning Oaks Elementary to Host Bullying Workshop

ALPHARETTA, GA -- What should a student do when someone picks on him or her? Or starts rumors? Or never lets him/her join a group? Is it really bullying if there's no physical contact?

Bullying and Social Aggression will be the topic of a workshop presentation by Balance Educational Services, LLC on Monday, Oct. 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Manning Elementary School (405 Cumming Street, Alpharetta, 30004).

This workshop will help parents and other adults understand and reduce bullying, cyber bullying and social aggression.

Veterans' Job Fair Set for Oct. 5

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Georgia Department of Labor's Gwinnett Career Center and the American Legion will co-sponsor a job fair for veterans, disabled veterans and other job-seekers in the area.

The event will be held Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 201 (201 Wills Road, Alpharetta, 30009).

The job fair will feature a number of employers, educational institutions and resource agencies that provide assistance to veterans and other job-seekers.
