Creek View Elementary Named NFL Play 60 Super School

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Creek View Elementary School in Alpharetta was recently named an NFL Play 60 Super School.

As a reward for achieving this honor, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White and an NFL representative visited the school on Tuesday, Dec. 7 to deliver a $10,000 grant.

White spoke to Creek View students about the importance of fitness and nutrition. He also led a PE class of 30 students.

Creek View was among over 100 Metro Atlanta schools that participated in Back to Football Friday on Sept. 10. Members of the school's PTA and PE department partnered to plan special health and fitness-related events for the students that day, and documented the festivities with photos and essays that were submitted for the grant.

Milton High Basketball Team to Play on ESPN RISE

MILTON, GA -- Milton High School's basketball team is currently ranked No. 3 in the Powerade Fab 50 ESPN RISE Team Rankings.

On Saturday, Jan. 15, this winning team will be put to the test by competing in the ESPN RISE 2010-2011 High School Basketball Showcase. Milton will face the No. 2 team -- Oak Hill Academy from Mouth of Wilson, Virginia -- in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Spalding Hoophall Classic at Springfield College's Blake Arena in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Milton High to Host Georgia Regional Cheerleading Competition

MILTON, GA -- Milton High School (13025 Birmingham Highway, Milton, 30004) will host all-star, collegiate, school and recreational cheerleading teams from throughout the Southeast at Coastal Cheer & Dance Events' Georgia Regional Competition.

The event will take place in the school's main gym on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Roswell Man Wins $52,000 a Year for Life

ROSWELL, GA -- A Roswell man is celebrating a lifetime Georgia Lottery win.

Carlos Cook, 58, won $52,000 a year for life by matching all six winning numbers from the Saturday, Nov. 6 Win for Life drawing. The prize payout equals $1,000 a week for life.

Cook randomly selected his lucky combination. His winning numbers were 11-14-15-18-25-35 and the Free Ball was 29.

Publix Super Markets #1019 (270 Rucker Road, Alpharetta, 30004) sold the top prize ticket.

Any Georgia Lottery retailer who sells a Win for Life top prize ticket can earn the $5,000 retailer incentive bonus payment. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold in Georgia, the retailers selling the winning tickets will share the $5,000 retailer incentive bonus.

Publix Super Markets will receive the $5,000 retailer incentive bonus.

Win for Life drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 11:00 p.m.

A Wish for Wendy to Benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Join the fun at the 11th annual Wish for Wendy Softball Challenge and Silent Auction on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The event will take place at the North Park (13450 Cogburn Road, Milton, 30004) ball fields. Proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Fans are welcome to come for the fun, sample the food and join the March to a Million to find the cure for cystic fibrosis. Softball, music and a clown for the children are just a few of the event highlights.

Silent auction items include sports memorabilia, art, gift certificates, salon services and more. Admission to the event is free.

New Prospect Carnival to Benefit PTA

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The New Prospect Carnival, New Prospect Elementary School's most fun fundraiser, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25. All proceeds go toward the school PTA.

The fun will last from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Come out to enjoy classic carnival rides and games, including a dunk tank, giant slide and cake walk. The art pavilion will host a number of creative activities like sand art, face painting and free temporary tattoos for the first 50 kids. Food will be available for purchase from Shane's BBQ, Z Pizza, Chick-fil-A and Kona Ice.

Individual tickets for games, rides and attractions will be 50¢ each. All-day wristbands, which provide unlimited admission to all of the activities, will be $20 for individuals or $50 for families.

IronKids Alpharetta Triathlon is Almost Here

ALPHARETTA, GA -- On Sunday, September 12, IronKids will hold the second annual IronKids Alpharetta Triathlon, drawing youth ranging from six to 15 years of age.

The event, taking place at Wills Park, will include five divisions: Ages 6-8, Ages 9-11, Ages 12-15, Military and Teams. The Military division will allow children of United States Armed Forces members to compete against each other within the three age groups. The Teams division allows a sports team, club or school that has youth triathletes to compete as a team in the event. A trophy will be awarded to the coach of the top finishing team.

Participants aged 12-15 will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a swim in the outdoor pool. Athletes will then bike on closed roads and run on paved walkways and grass throughout the park.
