ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The first-ever Holcomb Bridge Hustle 5K was a  huge success, with more than 340 runners showing up to race on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Rather than selling gift wrap or candy, members of the Holcomb Bridge Middle School PTA decided to host a 5K as a way of raising money for the school.

"We wanted to create an event that would tighten the relationships between the middle school, local residents and our businesses while supporting our children's education," said PTA member Susie Wall, who co-chaired the race. "The feedback has been so positive -- we will definitely host the event again next year."

Twenty-six local sponsors pitched in to help with the race, including Big Peach Running Company, Little Caesar's, Jersey Mike's and the city of Roswell.

Roswell's participation was key to the event's success, as city police officers were on hand to block off a portion of Holcomb Bridge Road and supervise the course.

"I am so proud of this community and so proud of our school," said Holcomb Bridge Middle principal Joy Schroerlucke. "The support from the city of Roswell, local businesses, cluster schools, our PTA and the entire community has been truly inspirational."
